Iran launches space programme
Footage from Iranian television broadcast the nation’s ‘important achievement’ in developing a space programme. Although Iranian press sources spoke of a test launch, there was no take-off footage transmitted, prompting suspicions that there was a delay.
The country is planning to launch a low-orbit research satellite (named Omid, which translates as Hope) in March 2009. Iran took its first step very strongly, precisely and wisely.

The recent move, which was a highly symbolic gesture for the country, may arouse suspicions over whether there may be some military strategy to the launch.
