Cosmic construction
A team from Mälardalen University in Sweden has designed a robot to construct a house on the Moon.
The project, called The House on The Moon, has been a collaboration with multi-artist Mikael Genberg and The Swedish Space Agency. Grenberg is known for creating alternative living environments, The Woodpecker Hotel, which is 13 metres up a tree is Västerås.
Mälardalen University’s Professor Lars Asplund, one of the country’s foremost robotics experts commented: “We want to teach students who think creatively, work together, to use the very latest technology, and dare to set their sights high. The most important thing is not always to reach the goal. If you aim for the stars, at least you’ll reach the treetops or even the Moon.”
The robot, currently called Roony, is expected to take its trip in 2012.
