What attracted you to doing this?
I worked for an Aerospace/Defence company when I finished university. I was part of a team of software engineers working on the development of the next generation of military aircraft. I was amazed by the technology being used and the technology innovation used as the foundaton for future solutions intended for use over the next 20 years. Exposure to technology innovation, the Internet and e-business have all been a major influence.

What does your typical day involve?
Helping organisations identify problems and recommending improvements and solutions to these problems. Achieving the objectives set by the client and completing assignments that have managed to successfully implement business change, technology innovation and achieve business benefits. Each client assignment is different, not only the assignment but the business environment, people and technology. It is a privilege in helping organisations make transformations. Each assignment enables me to build on my current knowledge and expereince. Overall it is rewarding and challenging.

How did you get to where you are today?
I obtained a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science at university and continued my interest in IT by completing a Masters in Business Systems Analysis & Design. This enabled me to be recognised as an expert in a number of areas together with my expereince in industry. This has contributed in obtaining a job within an international management consultancy. My educational background and industry experience is also appreciated by current and potential clients. I was lucky enough to join a 2 year graduate development programme within the Aerospace/Defence company. Over the 2 years I completed a number of different roles in the business and attend many training courses e.g. Business finance, leadership. I still attend training courses, but now focused on specific services that my current company offers. It is also a pleasure to train others in an area of your expertise.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of following your path?
Ensure that you understand the skills that employers and clients are looking for and how you can develop these skills. It is also very important to concentrate on communication and inter-personal skills. Take time to think about what you enjoy, your strenghts and how they can be related and promoted for a management consultancy role.
