According to the games company Nintendo, they have now won permission to use the NHS’s Change4Life logo on their marketing for the soon to be released Wii Fit Plus.

A Department of Health spokesperson told the Telegraph: "Active video games, where kids need to jump up and down or dance about as part of the game, are a great way to get kids moving."

The Department of Health have previously made similar deals with Cadbury and Pepsi if the companies agreed to commit funds to promote the Change4Life campaign. The spokesperson added that they are not endorsing a video game, but rather an exercise. “Active video games, where kids need to jump up and down or dance about as part of the game, are a great way to get kids moving,” he said.

Guy Cocker, from  industry website Gamespot , told the Telegraph: “It’s a great victory for the computer games industry.

“And to give credit to Nintendo, I think most people who buy Wii Fit do so because they actually want to improve their health.”

Wii Fit Plus is scheduled for release this Friday.
