Web on TV demand

SlingCatcher, a device launched at the US Consumer Electronics Show (CES), can allow users to watch content from the web directly onto a TV screen.

Designed to convert the ‘lean forward’ experience of watching a computer screen to the more relaxed ‘lean back’ one of watching a TV, the unit hopes to take advantage of the popularity of video on demand online services such as YouTube and the BBC’s iPlayer.
 
SlingCatcher attaches to a TV either wirelessly or by cable and lets users to draw a box around the section of their computer screen they want to capture and then transmitting it.  

Sling device

The device, expected to be available for purchase in the US by the second quarter of the year, will cost approximately $250 (£125).
 
Speaking at the launch, Blake Krikorian, chairman and chief executive of Sling Media, commented:  “From the very beginning our customers have asked why we didn’t offer a product that allows them to watch their home TV via the Slingbox on another TV. For instance, Slingbox customers have shown a desire to access their living room DVR on every TV in the home. The SlingCatcher enables them to do just that.”
