Ipod touch unveiled
Sharing many of the same capabilities as the iPhone, such as the WiFi wireless networking, the device has three central applications: the browser Safari, for wireless internet searching; Apple’s YouTube, to allow users access 10 million free videos; and the new iTunes WiFi Music Store.
The iPod touch is only 8mm thin and has room to store over 4,000 songs, show films and TV on its 3.5 wide screen display, play music, as well as having the facility to view photos and album art.
Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO said: “The iPod touch is a landmark iPod, ushering in a whole new generation of features based on its revolutionary multi-touch interface and built-in Wi-Fi wireless networking. People are going to be amazed at how thin it is and how much it does.”
iPod touch has a built-in accelerometer within its photo album application that automatically senses when you rotate it into its landscape position.
When you’re in music, it automatically switches to Cover Flow so you can browse your music collection by album cover artwork via is touchscreen display.
Apple also announced in San Francisco yesterday, an exclusive agreement with Starbucks that allows you to access the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store for free in participating US Starbucks stores starting in the US next month.
Apple Ipod has sold over 100 million units worldwide.
