Safety technology links vehicles
Motor vehicles could soon benefit from Honda’s new ‘Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication’ system, which relies on wireless LAN technology to link vehicles over a defined radio range and establish a network.
Honda’s new technology was demonstrated for the first time at the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium event at the Opel Test Track in Dudenhofen, Germany.
The safety technology also monitors the position, speed, distance and direction of surrounding road users, even in conditions of darkness and poor visibility. Drivers can then be sent information on the location of other vehicles, accidents, congestion and other obstructions, to warn them of traffic conditions ahead or possible dangers.
Information is displayed on motorcycle riders’ displays and safety warnings can be received through other interfaces, such as in an in-helmet audio system. Drivers can view the data on, for example, their navigation display.
Honda has been a member of the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium since 2005 as part of their commitment to road safety.
