Guitar Hero computer game inspires engineering course.

A class of engineering students have taken the computer game Guitar Hero as the inspiration for a new course. The classes, which will be hands-on, are based at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA.

The course combines mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and mechatronics.
Gavin Garner, who leads the class, commented: "I realised the students enjoyed pretending they were actual guitar players, and I thought, 'Why not have them actually build the real thing in the lab?”

Combining the engineering creativity that went into designing the guitars with the science of sound, the course is proving to be a ‘hit’ with students.
