SNIFF your friends
The Social Network Integrated Friend Finder (SNIFF) has been launched in the UK. The service can use mobile phone signals to locate contacts and display their whereabouts to the nearest 100 metres on an electronic map sent via SMS.
Created by Useful Networks in the US, the technology used in SNIFF is similar to that used by the police to locate suspects or missing children from their mobile.
Contacts must give their permissions to be ‘tracked’ and will also be given the option to remain ‘invisible’ for how long they want. The service will only be available to those over 18 and will need to register for SNIFF through Facebook, Bebo, MySpace or through the Useful Networks website.
Each SNIFF will cost 50p.
