Endowed with no more than averagely pleasant looks and a singing voice made for swearing his love was reserved especially for you-hoo-hoo, he is still trundling on, 20 years after playing Kylie's love interest on Neighbours. For his first album since 1993, Donovan has thought well outside the box and written a song with Brian Eno. Sadly, however, the fruits of this collaboration will only be available on iTunes (and isn't yet on the site as I write). The other tracks are Donovan doing his normal, unfunky thing on 15 cover versions of classics from the 1950s and 60s, and two new songs. Proceeding slowly and huskily, he doesn't ruin the likes of Blue Velvet or Billy Fury's gorgeous Wondrous Place, but the self-penned Dreamboats and Petticoats is West End chirpiness at its worst.
