New 3D photo system unveiled.

Fujifilm launched its Finepix Real 3D System yesterday at the Photokina trade show, held every two years in Cologne, Germany.

Photokina opened on Tuesday and will run for six days overall. 1,500 exhibitors will showcase their latest cameras – mostly digital – at the festival which runs every two years.

Among the new products at the show is the Fujifilm camera which uses two lenses to create 3D images. The Finepix Real 3D System can take both still images and video in 3D by taking two images at slightly different angles, creating the same effect as seeing the object with two eyes.

Also, the organisers hailed a new camera body family - the Micro Four-Thirds system - as a revolution in photography. These camera bodies work without the mirror and prism which have been key to SLR cameras for the past 70 years. The user will instead use a live view on a high-res LCD screen.

Panasonic and Olympus are already using the body in new products.

Other standout cameras on show include a camera with a GPS receiver to mark and save geographical location of images, the Nikon Coolpix P6000, and a camera which functions is rain or snow, the Olympus 1050 SW.

160,000 visitors are expected at the show.
