New mobile technology will allow us to pay for tube journeys on the go.

Transport for London, mobile manufacturer Nokia and network company O2 have teamed up to pay for our London tube journeys via mobile phone.
 
The system, which will work on the same basis as Oyster cards, operates via an RFID (radio frequency identification) chip embedded in the phone. Any journeys taken by the user will be charged to the users’ phone bill.

Mobile commerce

Mobile commerce, with the exception of the purchasing of ring tones, has been slow to pick up in the UK and Europe, despite in the Far East where people have been enjoying sophisticated ‘m commerce’ transactions for years.
 
RFID chips are already present in about half of mobile phones sold in Japan.
 
The initial trial of the system in London is due to start early next year.
