Catching engineers
Engineering Jobs
An engineering company in Scotland has made a partnership with a Scottish university and formed a new engineering institution – Howden Academy.
Engineering company Howden, along with Glasgow Caledonian University, has developed the new international post graduate programme based at the university to deliver specialist operational training to hundreds of Howden’s engineering graduates from 16 countries over the next few years.
Howden Academy will see Howden engineers share their years of specialist operational engineering knowledge to a new generation of employees. The courses on offer will be job-specific training modules, and the company hopes that the academy will reduce the time taken to turn graduate engineers into effective employees.
Bob Cleland, Howden’s Chief Executive, said: “This course has been designed by Howden engineers for Howden engineers, and so marries the knowledge, skills and experience our people have gathered over the years with the teaching expertise and world-class learning facilities at Glasgow Caledonian University. Engineering is an exciting career and this will revolutionise the approach we take to post-graduate engineering education and training. We hope that by making this level of investment in our people, we will attract and retain the best engineers from around the world, strengthening our position as a global force in engineering innovation.
“Glasgow Caledonian University was our preferred choice of partner because of their focus on applied professional learning and understanding of practical industry needs. The campus is modern and the quality of teaching and facilities is excellent, and that was important to us as well because, through the academy, we will be showing some of the world’s most promising engineers what Scotland has to offer.”
Howden will bring engineering graduates from across the world to participate in three-week training sessions at Glasgow Caledonian University and welcomed its first intake of 50 students yesterday, 14 July 2008.
